How do I control the paddle in Breakout Classic?
On desktop, move your mouse left and right — the paddle follows your cursor. You can also use the arrow keys or A/D keys. On mobile, touch and drag your finger across the screen to position the paddle.
What do the power-ups do?
Three power-ups can drop from broken bricks: the Wide Paddle (cyan ➡️) makes your paddle significantly larger for 12 seconds, Multi-Ball (purple ✖️) adds two extra balls to the field, and Slow Ball (green 🐢) reduces ball speed for 10 seconds so you can plan your shots.
Does Breakout Classic get harder as you progress?
Yes! Each new level adds more rows of bricks, and from Level 3 onward the top rows contain reinforced bricks that require two hits to break. Ball speed also increases slightly with each level, making precise paddle control more important.
How many lives do I get in Breakout Classic?
Three. The HUD shows remaining hearts in the top bar. Dropping the last ball past the paddle costs one life; at 0 the run ends. Multi-Ball can keep extra balls in play, but losing all of them still costs the life.
How does combo scoring work in Breakout Classic?
Each destroyed brick scores its row value (top rows are worth more) times a combo multiplier that grows 0.5 per extra brick inside a 1.5-second window, capped at 10 extra steps. Keep the rally going — a pause resets the combo.
How much is each brick row worth in Breakout Classic?
Top (red) bricks score 7 points, then orange 6, yellow 5, green 4, blue 3, violet 2, and bottom pink rows score 1. Reinforced double-hit bricks from Level 3 onward are worth twice their row value (e.g. a top double brick = 14).
Is Breakout Classic multiplayer or do I need an account?
Solo arcade only — no accounts or downloads. Play with mouse, keyboard (arrows/A-D), or touch on phone/tablet. Run ends at 0 lives; chase your best score in the session HUD.
How many bricks per level, and how often do power-ups drop?
The wall is 10 columns. Levels 1–2 have 5 rows (50 bricks); rows grow to 6/7/8 then cap at 9 from Level 6. From Level 3 the top third of rows need two hits. Destroyed bricks have an 18% chance to drop a power-up. Ball speed rises 12% per level; Slow Ball cuts it to 55% for 10 seconds. Solo arcade, no download.
Does Breakout Classic save my high score?
Yes — your best score is stored locally in your browser and shown as BEST in the HUD, so it survives closing the tab without any account. Clearing your browser data or playing in a private/incognito window resets it. Lives, combos and level progress stay within the run only.
