Word Blitz Free Guide: Play Online With No Download

Play Word Blitz free online with no download or signup: a 4×4 letter grid, 90 seconds, and 3–7 letter English words. Real rules, scoring table, and tips that actually raise your score.

Word Blitz is a free word-search game that runs entirely in your browser — no download, no signup, no app. You get a 4×4 letter grid and 90 seconds on the clock to swipe together 3–7 letter words from adjacent tiles, diagonals included. Longer words pay far more than short ones, so the whole game is about hunting big words fast.

Want the same timed word hunt at a different pace? Boggle Rush is GamingLab's other letter-grid game with its own twist. Wondering how it compares to the classic? Word Blitz vs Boggle.

How Word Blitz Actually Works

Word Blitz shows a 4×4 letter grid and starts a 90-second timer. Swipe — or click, on desktop — across adjacent letters, diagonals included, to spell a 3–7 letter word, then release to submit. On mobile, touch a tile and drag: tiles are sized for comfortable finger swiping.

Three rules that matter:

  • One tile, one use per word. You can't reuse a tile inside a word, except to step back along your own path.
  • Everyone shares the same grid. The board is generated from a date-based seed, so everyone playing the same day in the same language sees the identical 4×4 grid — perfect for comparing scores with friends.
  • Every grid has at least one valid word. Each board is verified in advance, so you never get an empty grid.

Scoring: Length Pays

Word lengthPoints
3 letters1 pt
4 letters3 pts
5 letters8 pts
6 letters15 pts
7+ letters25 pts

A single 7-letter word (25 points) beats twenty-five 3-letter words. The winning strategy isn't grabbing fast — it's hunting long words.

5 Tips That Actually Work

1. Target 5–7 letter words first. Eight points minimum per word changes the whole final score.

2. Scan for prefixes and suffixes. -ING, -TION, -NESS, RE-, UN-: if those letters cluster together, a long word is almost there.

3. Think diagonals. Most players forget the corners; words that zigzag diagonally are hiding in plain sight.

4. Replay the daily grid. Since everyone shares the same daily board, a second run on the same day improves you fast.

5. Save 10 seconds to submit. A long word found at the buzzer but never submitted scores zero.

Word Blitz Free: FAQ

Is Word Blitz really free with no download?

Yes. The game runs fully in the browser on desktop and mobile — no install, no account, no payment. That's exactly why it shows up for "word blitz free" searches: there is literally nothing to install.

Can I play Word Blitz in Spanish?

Yes — the game follows the page language. Open the Spanish page and the board plays a 2,500+ word Spanish dictionary. This English page plays with English words, and the daily challenge uses a seeded board that changes every day.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. No app, no account, no signup. Open the page, the grid loads, the timer starts.

Does Word Blitz work on mobile?

Yes. It's a touch-drag-release game and the layout adapts to phones — arguably where it feels most natural, with a round fitting into a coffee queue.

How is it different from classic Boggle?

Classic Boggle is a physical multiplayer game (3 minutes, compare lists, duplicates get crossed out). Word Blitz is solo, 90 seconds, a shared daily grid, and scoring that rewards length. Full comparison: Word Blitz vs Boggle.
