📖 How to Play
You play black and move first. Tap an empty intersection to place a stone. Get five of your stones in a straight line — row, column, or diagonal — before the CPU does. Easy plays casually near the center; medium blocks threats and builds its own fives.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I play Gomoku online free with no download?
Right here on GamingLab. This free Gomoku (五目並べ / five in a row) game runs in your browser against the CPU — no app, no signup. Tap an empty point on the 15×15 board, get five in a line, and restart instantly after every match.
What are the rules of Gomoku / five in a row?
Freestyle Gomoku on a 15×15 grid. Black moves first. Players take turns placing one stone on an empty intersection. The first to get five stones in a row — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — wins. There are no Renju forbidden moves in this version.
Is Gomoku the same as Go or Connect Four?
No. Go (囲碁) is a territorial capture game on 19×19. Connect Four drops discs in a 7×6 grid with gravity. Gomoku is five-in-a-row on a Go-like board — much closer to 五目並べ than to Go scoring. Play all three free on GamingLab.
How do you win at Gomoku? Tips for beginners?
Watch for open threes — three in a row with both ends empty almost forces a four. Always block an opponent four. Prefer the center early. Medium CPU already blocks winning fours, so build two threats at once.
Can I play Gomoku on mobile?
Yes. The 15×15 board is tap-first and sized for phones. Hover preview is desktop-only; on a phone just tap the intersection. No download or account.
Is this Gomoku free? Do I need to download anything?
Yes — play Gomoku free in the browser with no download, no signup, and no install. Best score saves on this device. Restart from the site overlay after a win or loss.
Can I play Gomoku against a friend, or only against the CPU?
This version is you (black) versus the computer on easy or medium. Easy is relaxed and center-weighted; medium hunts wins and blocks your fours. A two-player pass-and-play mode is not included yet.
How is Gomoku scored, and do overlines or draws count as a win?
You play black vs the CPU. A win on easy scores 60 (40+20) and medium scores 100 (80+20). A loss or a full-board draw scores 0. Freestyle rules: five or more in a line wins, so a six-in-a-row still counts. No Renju bans, no captures, and no pass-and-play 2P.
Where should I place the first Gomoku stone, and can I undo or swap colors?
The strongest opening is the center intersection of the 15x15 (the empty-board CPU only considers that cell). You are always black and always move first - there is no pie/swap rule, no undo, and no time limit. After you place, the CPU thinks 0.28-0.55 seconds then replies. Stones sit on intersections, not squares. Freestyle: five or more in a line wins.
