Browser games by time

Not every break is the same. Sometimes you have five minutes on your phone, sometimes fifteen on a laptop, sometimes a calm half hour. This guide matches six free browser games to the time you have right now: all of them open instantly, with no downloads and no accounts.

For a general list, read our best free browser games of 2026. For puzzles only, see the best browser puzzle games. This guide answers a different question: what do you open with the minutes you have?

Start with: Tetris Neon

With 5 minutes: Tetris Neon

Tetris Neon

Play now: Tetris Neon

The classic 10-by-20 board with all 7 pieces. Every 10 lines clears you into a faster level. Clearing 1, 2, 3 or 4 lines pays 100, 300, 500 or 800 points times your level. You can hold one piece for later and always see the next one coming.

On keyboard: arrows to move, ↑ to rotate, space to drop. On mobile, drag with your finger.

Tip: hold the long I piece and spend it only on 4-line clears: that is the 800-point shot.

With 5 minutes: Neon Runner

Neon Runner

Play now: Neon Runner

An endless neon runner: the character runs on its own and you only pick when to jump. You get a double jump (tap or space, up to twice mid-air) and the speed rises by itself over time. Your record is the distance you cover.

One run lasts a couple of minutes: perfect for a queue or a coffee break.

Tip: jump late, not early. Most crashes come from jumping too soon, not too late.

With 15 minutes: 2048 Classic

2048 Classic

Play now: 2048 Classic

The 4Γ—4 board where you merge equal tiles: every merge adds the new tile's value to your score. Twos spawn (90% of the time) and fours. You win by building the 2048 tile, and you can keep playing after winning. Arrow keys or finger swipes.

Fifteen minutes fits 2 or 3 serious attempts.

Tip: pin your biggest tile in one corner and never move it: almost every loss starts with abandoning the corner.

With 15 minutes: Word Blitz

Word Blitz

Play now: Word Blitz

A 4Γ—4 letter grid with 90 seconds on the clock. Swipe (finger or mouse) through adjacent letters, diagonals included, to build words of 3 to 7 letters. Long words pay far more: 1, 3, 8, 15 and 25 points for 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 letters. English and Spanish dictionaries, plus a daily challenge.

Tip: skip 3-letter words at first and hunt 5- and 6-letter ones: a single 6-letter word (15 points) equals fifteen short ones.

With 30 minutes or more: Sudoku Classic

Sudoku Classic

Play now: Sudoku Classic

Classic 9Γ—9 sudoku in three difficulties: easy, medium and hard. You get only 3 mistakes per run, and finishing a board chains the next level for more points. Tap a cell, pick a number on the keypad.

Half an hour covers 2 or 3 chained easy boards, or one full hard fight.

Tip: stay on easy until you chain three levels in a row with zero mistakes before touching hard mode.

With 30 minutes or more: Chess Arena

Chess Arena

Play now: Chess Arena vs the AI

Full chess on the 8Γ—8 board: castling, en passant and pawn promotion. The machine plays at 5 levels, from Beginner to Master, plus step-by-step lessons, friend games and online matchmaking.

Want more machine duels? Read our online strategy games guide.

Tip: finish the castling and promotion lessons before moving up: basic mistakes cost more than any tactic.

Pick in 10 seconds

  • 5 minutes on your phone: Neon Runner or a quick Tetris Neon run.
  • 15-minute break: 2048 Classic or two rounds of Word Blitz.
  • Calm half hour: Sudoku Classic chaining levels, or a Beginner chess game.
  • To level up at any of them: repeat easy until you win comfortably before moving up.
